If you’re still deciding whether you’ll attend school this fall, the best step you can take is to reach out to an admissions counselor at the schools that interest you. Counselors will help you and your family navigate the admissions and financial aid process. Having a well-informed advisor will make your journey much easier!
Applying to College
Check out the Idaho Schools Directory to find contact information for admissions offices. Contact an enrollment counselor to see if the school accepts late applications and make sure you understand how to apply (and any important deadlines).
Most schools will require:
- Completed application
- High school and any dual credit transcripts
- Completed FAFSA (for those seeking financial aid)
Through June 30, in-state high school students that are graduating this Spring can use Idaho’s online common application, Apply Idaho, to apply to one or all of Idaho’s public colleges and universities and/or the College of Idaho and Northwest Nazarene University, for free.
Idaho’s public schools offer a variety of degree and certificate programs that can be completed in 1-4 years and some career training can be completed in under a year. If you’re not sure how to choose a school that’s right for you, check out this guide to things to consider when choosing a college.
Paying for School & FAFSA
If you plan to apply for financial aid or scholarships, you’ll need to fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) first. You can submit the FAFSA through June 30th (the earlier, the better). Learn more about the application and how it’s used.

Knowing What You Want to Study

Take the Future Findr quiz to see what careers might be a good fit for you, based on your skills and interests. Quiz results pages will tell you what degree programs can lead to a career in your chosen field and which Idaho schools offer these programs.
If you’re interested in Career Technical Education, 1-4 year programs are available at many of Idaho’s colleges and universities, even if you haven’t begun these courses in high school. Contact a transition coordinator at the school that interests you to get help with the admissions process.
